Hands-On: Rockstar Table Tennis Swings Onto Wii

Rockstar_table_tennis_02Rockstar set up a big black curtained-off area in the front of the Penny Arcade Expo exhibit hall. What wonders did it hold inside? Grand Theft Auto IV? The chopped-up Manhunt 2? As it turns out, none of the above -- inside was the Wii version of Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis.

While it didn't look nearly as good as the original Xbox 360 version (shown right), I'm sure there wasn't a person in attendance who didn't agree this was an excellent idea -- after all, the Wii shot to fame in great part based on a tennis game. But where Wii Sports' tennis game is scaled down from the real thing, Rockstar gives us a much more complex game design. But will players like it? I'm still not sure.

TVB stars get Int'l Emmy Awards nods

    BEIJING, Aug. 28 -- This year's International Emmy Awards will see two Hong Kong TVB stars vie for top honors.

    Charmaine Sheh and Bobby Au-Yeung have been nominated for the coveted award of best performance by an actress and actor respectively.

    Sheh earned the nod for her performance in the 2006 TVB hit "Dance of Passion," and Bobby Au-Yeung was nominated for his role in "Dicey Business," another TVB hit drama.

GUANGZHOU: Xin Guo, 27, is generally satisfied with the house he rents in an "urban village" in Tangxia, Guangzhou.

The building has good sanitation and security. However, the flat is rather small and the area is congested with other buildings blocking his view.

Chinese to lead UN peacekeeping force in Western Sahara

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday  appointed Major-General Zhao Jingmin as the new Force Commander for the UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Maj.-Gen. Zhao succeeds Gen. Kurt Mosgaard of Denmark, who will complete his tour of duty as Force Commander Monday, UN spokesperson Michele Montas told reporters.

It is the first time that the world body has had a Chinese national to head one of its missions.

China sets route for 2nd West-East natural gas pipeline

BEIJING - China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest oil producer, announced Monday that route of China's second West-East natural gas pipeline has been basically decided.

The pipeline will go through 13 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to transmit natural gas from central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, and Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to energy-thirsty eastern and southern China, including East China's Shanghai and South China's Guangdong Province.
